DFSA (Dubai Financial Services Authority)
The independent regulator of financial services conducted in or from the DIFC.
DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre)
The leading financial hub in the MEASA region, based in Dubai.
Fatwa
A legal pronouncement in Islam, issued by an expert in religious law. In finance, it certifies a product as Shariah-compliant.
Murabaha
An Islamic financing structure where the seller and buyer agree to the cost and markup of an asset.
SCA (Securities and Commodities Authority)
The federal UAE regulator. Oversees "onshore" financial activities outside the free zones.
Zakat
Obligatory charitable giving in Islam, generally 2.5% of accumulated wealth annually.
